Smell anything? I bet you do! You probably smell everything! Because your nose is awesome!
They say that one does not simply walk into odor, but I’m pretty sure you do. I don’t know why Boromir said that. Maybe he wasn’t involved with this study.
Yes! A study! Olfactory science is a booming business! Scientists had people smell a bunch of stuff and they figured out that you can smell over a trillion different scents!
That’s an intense scents sense! I mean, you can hear about 340,000 tones. See maybe 10 million colors. But that’s nothing compared to a TRILLION!
They had people smell a whole bunch of different odor molecules to get to the trillion mark. But they think that’s still too low.
Everything we smell is made up of different combinations of odor molecules. Like, a rose, which has 275. I’m sure you know that, though. Even Shakespeare wrote “that which we call a rose by any other name would still smell like 275 odor molecules.”
Maybe you don’t know that one. It’s in the original script. Not the Leo and Claire one.
I’m a big smeller. Wait…that sounds weird. I mean that I like to smell things. Mostly food. It’s fun to get a scent of some new treats before you eat them.
Especially when you open a new bag of jelly beans. Those are odor molecules that know how to get my nose hairs tingling!
I’m sorry if you think that’s gross. But I don’t care. Because my nose is a valued part of my body and I will not let its propensity to get snotty make me lose any respect for it!
So when you’re enjoying the smell of something, make sure you thank your nose for giving you that special moment.
And if you smell something stinky, well, don’t blame your nose. It’s just letting you know that those odor molecules are bad and you should throw away the evil, lumpy milk!
I’m off to tear open a bag of jelly beans. Mmmmmmmm…
Enjoy Everything.

retraction and a toothbrush
Um...so...I maybe got a little too excited about Voyager 1 yesterday. Well...the press release got a little too excited and I may have possibly by chance encouraged that excitement with many exclamation points.
Sooooooo...Voyager 1 IS really far away from us. Like, 11 billion miles away. That part hasn't changed. BUT! It's not really escaping the plasma bubble that surrounds our solar system. It looks like that could take another 15 years. So yeah...
What ISS cool?! Astronauts on the International Space Station (Get the ISS joke now at the beginning of this paragraph? Funny, right?) were able to install a "critical power-switching box" with the help of a toothbrush! YES! ALWAYS travel with a toothbrush! There were some metal shavings in the socket and they just brushed them out. Now the socket has no cavities.
How's that for awesome space news! And I'm pretty almost sure that it won't be retracted!
OH! Speaking of retraction...sorta. My body kinda retracted some cereal. I was eating cereal and choked on a flake. (I don't know WHY air and food has the same entry. It's very troublesome.) Somehow, this flake went up my nose! So I had to blow my nose to get the flake pieces out!!!
SO GROSS!
I couldn't stop laughing! It was epic!
Now THAT will not be retracted. Though, some people might wish it wasn't even tracted in the first place.
I'm off to tract and retract myself.
Enjoy Everything.

animals need tissues
Animals are getting sick. Maybe on purpose?
We had bird and piggy flu. Now we have to watch out for Seal Flu!
When it started with the birds, we thought it was a fluke ("fluke" as in accident, not the fish). Then the pigs got the flu, but it didn't seem too bad.
Now that seals want to give us the flu, a conspiracy arises. These animals are INFECTING THEMSELVES with the flu just to give us the sniffles!
Turtles don't do that. They actually try to avoid the flu by wearing little wool caps. Because they know how cute it looks.
Seals would look cute with wool caps, too. But they don't wear them. Because they want the flu.
Silly seals.
I think there are very few things that are cuter than turtles wearing little wool caps.
I also think that acorns don't get enough credit for growing into trees.
Did you know that it's good luck to put an acorn on your windowsill? It's supposed to protect you from getting struck by lightning. At least, that's what it did for Thor. I don't know why that matters to Thor, though. He can summon lightning, so I figure he can just unsummon it...right?
Maybe if I put some acorns in my nose and a wool cap on my head I won't get seal flu. Or struck by lightning.
Maybe that's not a good idea. Not after the marble incident.
Don't put marbles in your nose.
I'm off to find some acorns and wool.
Enjoy Everything.
